Saddles play a critical role in having a comfortable ride. The most comfortable saddle isn’t the largest or the cushiest, but rather one that properly supports your sit bones. People all have different sit bone widths, which has nothing to do with rider weight. What works for one person may not work for the next. It can be a process of trial and error – but with the wide variety of saddles available, you’re sure to find the right one for your needs. Many shops keep a stock of demo saddles you can try for a ride or two to see if it fits you. This is a great way to “try before you buy”. They can also help you adjust the angle and position of the saddle to suit your body. It might feel a little embarrassing to be talking about your butt with a bike shop owner, but believe us, it’s something bike shop employees are quite used to doing. You won’t see any blushing on their part.
