SCHWINN STING-RAY APPEARING IN WYCLEF VIDEO
The new Schwinn Sting-Ray will be featured in the Wyclef Jean music video "Take Me As I Am," scheduled to begin airing in March 2004. Millions of viewers will watch the video on BET, MTV and other music video channels.
Wyclef Jean, a popular hip-hop musician from a reggae background and of Haitian descent, filmed the video for the song in Little Haiti, a Miami, Fla. neighborhood. The video features a boy riding the new Sting-Ray through the neighborhood behind Wyclef as he sings the song.
A connoisseur of fine vehicles, Wyclef used two of his favorite rides in the video: a 1950s-era pink Cadillac (with pink mink interior) and a customized chopper from Orange County Choppers. When he saw the new Sting-Ray and realized that Orange County Choppers was involved with re-launching this Schwinn classic, he couldn't help himself from riding the new Sting-Ray around the set and adjacent neighborhoods, despite the fact that he was a little long for this kid's model!
The Schwinn Sting-Ray is an American icon, widely considered the most popular bicycle of all time. First introduced in 1963 during the muscle car craze, the banana seat bike remained on the market until 1982. More than 1 million bikes were sold in 1968 alone.
The new Sting-Ray's design pays homage to the original Sting-Ray, but this very modern interpretation reflects the public's interest in customized motorcycles. With its raked-out fork, knees-to-the-breeze seat position and enough bad-boy character to raise eyebrows, this is no ordinary bike. Add to that the Sting-Ray's partnership with America's premier chop shop, Orange County Choppers, and you've got the coolest bike around.
