I got your name from Bob Hufford. I'm working on a '73 Schwinn Super Sport and am trying to get the GT-210 rear derailleur to shift into 5th or 10th gear. I received and installed a new, original Weinmann rear rim with hub & spokes. After installation is when I started to have the shifting problem. I assume that the rear cog is in a slightly different position than before. My question is do you know if the main return spring would get weak after time? 35 years to be exact. I have had this derailleur apart many times in the past and maybe it's just time to do it again and clean it all up one more time. But I was wondering about the spring. When I do a full drop from 1st into 5th the derailleur doesn't collapse quite all the way. I can squeeze it to be fully closed with my hands. Hence, my questioning the spring's tension.
